Thanksgiving time is such an important holiday for our family to be thankful and grateful for everything we have. Finding an engaging way to work with our little learners but also add in some interactive worksheets for educational fun too is a huge win! Best part is that these Thanksgiving activities help with sight word learning, independent practice, and build confident readers.  Pick up a pumpkin fall based drink or make your own to get into the Thanksgiving spirit.

23 Thanksgiving Thanksgiving Sight Word Activities

Thanksgiving sight word activities can be a fun way to help kids practice and reinforce their reading skills at home or in school.  Take morning work and literacy centers to a new level during the month of November! Here are some creative and educational activities and pdf worksheets for kids:

  1. Turkey Feather Sight Words: Create a paper turkey and cut out "feathers" from different colored paper. Write sight words on the feathers. Have kids read the word on each feather before adding it to the turkey.

  2. Thanksgiving Word Bingo: Make bingo cards with Thanksgiving-related sight words. Call out words, and kids can mark them on their cards. The first one to get a row filled shouts "Bingo!"

  3. Sight Word Scavenger Hunt: Hide sight word cards around the house or classroom. Provide kids with a list of words to find. As they locate each word, they must read it aloud.  This is a great way to add in movement to the activity and school day and get wiggles out!

  4. Thanksgiving Reading Books: Provide kids with Thanksgiving-themed books and ask them to highlight or circle sight words they recognize as they read.

  5. Sight Word Place Mats: Create Thanksgiving-themed place mats with sight and spelling words written on them. Kids can read the important words during mealtime.

  6. Turkey Trot: Make cutout turkey shapes with sight words on them. Scatter them around the room. When you call out a word, children must "trot" over to the turkey with that word and read it.  This activity is the perfect combination of fun and literacy skills all mixed into one.

  7. Thanksgiving Sight Word Puzzles: Create printable Thanksgiving worksheets and puzzles by writing sight words on one piece and their matching images on another. Kids must match the word puzzle piece to the image puzzle piece.

  8. Thanksgiving Sight Word Memory Game: Create pairs of cards with sight words and their corresponding images or meanings. Kids turn over two cards at a time, trying to find matches.

  9. Sight Word Crossword Puzzles: Make Thanksgiving-themed crossword puzzles with high frequency words as the answers. Provide clues or pictures related to each word.

  10. Thanksgiving Sight Word Roll and Read: Make a dice with sight words on each side. Have kids take turns rolling the dice and reading the word that faces up.

  11. Write a Thanksgiving Story: Encourage kids to write a short Thanksgiving story or poem using as many sight words as possible.

  12. Thanksgiving Word Wall: Create a word wall with Thanksgiving-related sight words. Kids can refer to it during writing activities and see how many words they can use in their own sentences.

  13. Thanksgiving Word Search: Provide kids with Thanksgiving-themed word search puzzles that include sight words. They can circle the words as they find them.  These printable worksheets are perfect free printables to have on hand for early finishers or classroom parties!

  14. Thanksgiving Sight Word Jenga: Write sight words on Jenga blocks. As kids play, they must read the word on the block they remove.
